When I found this little sign “Jesus Loves This Hot Mess” recently, I quickly snatched it to purchase for myself. For many times I have wondered, “Why God do you continue to contend with me?” I have talked with enough people to know I am not alone in questioning God in this manner. But we realize that God sees our destiny, He knows the outcome of who we are becoming, and we see the Holy Spirit’s work within ourselves daily.
Now here is a lady that truly found herself in a “Hot Mess”.
John 8:2-11 – 2 Early in the morning he came again to the temple. All the people came to him, and he sat down and taught them. 3 The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst 4 they said to him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. 5 Now in the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?” 6 This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. 7 And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground. 9 But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. 10 Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.” (ESV)
This story is self-explanatory, yet there is so much to expound on. However, the profound truth that I am pointing to today is THE LOVE Jesus surrounded this woman with. He did not condemn her for her sin, He simply said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”
She called him “Lord”, which tells us that she believed Him to be the Son of God, the Savior of the world. We are not told if she became a believer at that moment or if she had been before, so we are not meant to know.
What we are meant to know is that it proves the greatest love, gratitude, and devotion to God comes from great sin. Jesus taught the principle “the greater the forgiveness, the greater is the love” in Luke 7 with the story of the prostitute and her alabaster flask of fragrant oil.
So, my encouragement for you today is: if you feel a little off centered, needing a little or a lot from Jesus…
just know that Jesus is ready to straighten our crowns and help us to put our lives back in order…
hot mess and all.

I pray as you have read this to the end that God Himself has touched your heart in some way. If you have been a victim of Satan’s trap, repent and ask for forgiveness. You can see in this story that Jesus is waiting with open arms to receive you with His love, there is no condemnation for those that give their heart and life to Him. For those that have already done so and yet cannot forgive themselves, be reminded that Jesus is not condemning you, so neither should you. And oh my, this is a reminder for the rest of us. I have heard it said, “He/She should have known better.” Well, yes, but who are we to judge? We have not walked in that person’s shoes to know what caused them to act or react in that manner. May all of us be reminded that God alone is judge of every heart. Our job is to pray for one another to make it to heaven, to reach the end, the goal. We speak of unity a lot today, so I am positive that more prayer for one another and less negativity would go far.
