“Where Is Your Unction?” What a funny title, what could it imply?
This morning when I sat down to read The Word of God, I found myself rereading the same sentence and paragraph. I do know that we all do this from time to time, but I knew within me there were so many topics, lessons, blogs, that were stirring inside of my head, yet I did not have clarity to complete the necessary assignments. So, I quietly asked the Lord why I was having trouble focusing lately and why there was a lack of understanding when I did focus. I quickly heard “unction of the Holy Spirit”.
I contemplated that answer, not understanding its fullness, and then asked, “What do You mean by that?”
Within me I heard, “Where is your unction of My Holy Spirit?”
-UNCTION-
I found the definition of “unction” to be two-fold in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary:
I have heard sermons relating to the unction of the Holy Spirit on numerous occasions. With my finite mind, I never questioned the word in its exalted form, leaving it to the theologians to depict. Now reading this first definition, I comprehend more how it relates to God’s Holy Spirit.
For me today, the second definition took precedence with the words “insincere earnestness of manner”. With a little nudge in my spirit, I realized I had been picking up the Holy Word of God out of habit. I have lost my zeal and it is up to me to stir it up again. Oh, forgive me Lord! I need a daily refilling of the Holy Spirit to revive me and sustain me. I desire more zeal, enthusiasm, passion, fervor – a sincere earnestness – in my approach to reading and studying God’s Word again. I need the “unction”, the “anointing” of the Holy Spirit, explained in the first definition.
I recently taught that our approach and our attitude will either enhance or hinder our time with God. Today I purpose in my heart to have a sincere earnestness in seeking, searching, and studying God’s Word to serve His kingdom well.

If you find yourself in this same place from time to time, read that definition again and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you for your own life. God’s correction, His leading, is always conducive to making our life what He intends it to be. Being obedient to the Holy Spirit is the only way to live a rich and fulfilling life!

Blessed: (taken from Word Wealth in the Spirit Filled Life Bible)
The word is an adjective suggesting happy, supremely blessed, a condition in which congratulations are in order. It is a grace word that expresses the special joys and satisfaction granted the person who experiences salvation.
Matthew 5:3-12 –
3“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
