Isaiah 53:5NKJV
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
As believers we all know this verse and most of us can recite its content by memory. We claim the promises of this scripture for ourselves and those we love, as we should.
Yet, God gave me a revelation many years ago regarding a portion of this verse. I have always heard “by His stripes we are healed” and the version I studied said the same. Upon reading Isaiah 53:5 in the KJV, I noticed it said, “WITH His stripes we are healed”.
Isaiah 53:5KJV – But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
It really caught my attention, and I heard God reveal to me: “To be healed WITH My stripes means you have to be attached to Me”. As I pondered this, it really ministered to me. Using the word “BY” is okay, it still gets the point across.
Let us decipher our English words.
Looking at this scripture in the light of how Webster defines “With” – If we are a child of God and His Spirit resides in us, then by all means we are attached to the living God.
This causes me to see that unbelievers can be healed BY His stripes, but believers are healed WITH His stripes.
GLORY TO GOD for His mercy and grace!
Thank You Jesus for Your healing virtue!

It is not my intent to complicate what Jesus did for us on the cross. He endured every stripe for our healing and all we need to do is receive it. My only intention is to share what God revealed through His Holy Spirit in teaching me how He abides within us and knowing that our healing is already there. We need only to accept it.
Are you standing BY Jesus or WITH Him?
It is the difference between head knowledge and
inviting Him into your heart, that’s all.
Romans 8:11 – But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
In conclusion, Peter quoted a portion of Isaiah 53:5 in 1 Peter 2:24 – “who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness – by whose stripes you were healed.” And this time, the word “by” is identified in both versions KJV and NKJV.
Notice the word “WERE”, it is past tense, because your healing was accomplished on the cross. Your healing, whether it be mental, psychological, physical, or spiritual – you ARE HEALED in the name of Jesus! Amen!
