February is the month we hear everyone talking about love. We have a day set aside to exemplify our love to our significant other. While this is a grand gesture, we know that a marriage will not last if love is just portrayed one day a year. We know that a single pursuer would not capture the love of his life if he only exemplified his love toward her one day a year. This theory is the same in which we experience God.
Too often we take the simple things of God for granted, like HIS LOVE! We hear about God’s love all the time, but do we allow ourselves to experience His love? We all get too busy at times to experience His Presence but thank God for His mercy! He is always there, waiting for us to come to Him, to fellowship with Him, to worship and praise Him.
How can we experience His love?
Do we read His Word hurriedly, out of duty; or do we read and meditate on His Word, allowing God time to speak to us?
The same with prayer: Do we know that prayer is our fellowship time with God? Do we recite and repeat the same quick prayers as we begin our day or do we allow God time to respond to our prayers? If we expect Him to speak to us and give us direction, don’t we need to take time to listen?
Prayer is speaking freely to our Father, our Daddy. I use both terms here because in a corporate setting I see God as “Our Father” out of reverence to Him. But in my intimate time with Him, I see Him as my Daddy, because God is the one we can come to with anything and everything. God is the one we can trust with anything and everything, the secrets of our hearts. Sometimes it doesn’t even take words; we can sit in the stillness of His Presence and feel His comfort and get what we need.
When our children need comforted, do we push them away? No, we pull them into our lap, hug them and hold them until they feel better, until they feel secure. We need to see our Daddy God in the same manner, wanting to hold us until we know and feel His peace, until we have the security of knowing He is in control of everything that concerns us because HE LOVES US!
God loves us so much that He takes a detailed interest in us: Matthew 10:30 says “30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” God considers you to be of great value to take such interest in you!
What was God’s greatest demonstration of His love for every one of us?
John 3:16-17 – I know we have memorized this verse, but take a moment to really hear what it is saying.
16 For God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son so that anyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 God did not send His Son into the world to condemn it, but to save it.
John 5:24 – 24 “I say emphatically that anyone who listens to My message and believes in God who sent Me has eternal life, and will never be damned for his sins, but has already passed out of death into life.
Romans 5:8-9 – 8 But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.9 And since by His blood He did all this for us as sinners, how much more will He do for us now that He has declared us not guilty? Now He will save us from all of God’s wrath to come.
Many scriptures reveal God’s love to us, but Ephesians 3:14-21 titles this section “The Magnitude of God’s Love”. Read this as a prayer for yourself.
14-15 When I think of the wisdom and scope of His plan, I fall down on my knees and pray to the Father of all the great family of God—some of them already in heaven and some down here on earth—16 that out of His glorious, unlimited resources He will give you the mighty inner strengthening of His Holy Spirit. 17 And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts, living within you as you trust in Him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love; 18-19 and may you be able to feel and understand, as all God’s children should, how long, how wide, how deep, and how high His love really is; and to experience this love for yourselves, though it is so great that you will never see the end of it or fully know or understand it. And so at last you will be filled up with God Himself. 20 Now glory be to God, who by His mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of—infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes. 21 May He be given glory forever and ever through endless ages because of His master plan of salvation for the Church through Jesus Christ.
Now that is a love that we all desire! Allow God to love you His way, to show you what agape love really means!
