Luke 24:45 – 45 And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.
Are you having trouble understanding the Bible? Jesus opened the disciples understanding to comprehend the meaning of the Scriptures. He surely will do the same for us if we only ask.
Let us continue with the next verses.
Luke 24:46-53 – 46 Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And you are witnesses of these things. 49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” 50 And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. 51 Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven. 52 And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, 53 and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen.
Oh, so many things to talk about as I read this! The first thing that penetrates my heart is this – while Jesus was blessing them, He was carried up into heaven. What a sight to behold! To hear His words of blessing upon me, and to see Him ascended upon high, I too would continually be in the temple worshipping, praising, and blessing God with the disciples!
Now, let us look at what Luke wrote in Acts 1:9-11 – 9 Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, 11 who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”
So, yes friends, we are to be praying, worshipping, praising, and blessing God today. Praise Him for His many blessings! May we be ever thankful and grateful for ALL He has done!
Yet, let us not forget to “watch for His return”.
Luke 21:36 – Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”
Next, let’s talk about what we should be doing while we wait for His return. Going back to our first scripture in Luke 24, God has given us His Holy Spirit to be witnesses of His great power, to be witnesses of the good news of Jesus Christ and what He has done for humanity. Be aware that our loved ones, our neighbors, our co-workers’ souls may depend upon our obedience! God’s Will is that no man is left behind, but the enemy tries to steal, kill, and destroy. We are servants of the Most High, a living God, so may we be found faithful and counted worthy to stand before a Holy God! May He find us full of faith upon His return!
