Yesterday we observed Resurrection Sunday. So, what are you doing today, “The Day After”?
The Disciples returned to their secular occupations when Jesus was no longer with them. You may be asking as I am, “How could they go back to their normal lives after knowing all that Jesus taught them and all that they saw in signs and wonders?” My answer to that is, “We have His Holy Presence, His Word that teaches us, gives us instruction, and gives us examples of those that lived before us. We have been given the heart of God and the teachings of Jesus, through the pages of the living Word.” So, it prompts me to ask again, what are we doing today, “The Day After”; after we celebrated just yesterday our Risen Savior?
Are we about His business? Are we living for Him, allowing His purposes to thrive through us? Are we telling others about Jesus, who died for us all? Are we telling them about why He died? Are we showing them Jesus in our walk and the way we talk? Are we intently living for Him today?
Jesus spent forty days with the disciples after raising from the dead and before ascending to His Father. As Jesus taught them more about the kingdom of God, no doubt their faith grew in which they regarded the opportunities and decree of the Great Commission.
We know from scripture that the disciples “went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs”. (Mark 16:20)
Do not be deceived!
The devil deceived people that day of our Lord’s resurrection, through the religious sect and the soldiers that allowed greed to overtake them. Sadly, he is still deceiving as many as possible today. (Matthew 28:11-15)
Do not be one of them, for:
Let us discuss why Jesus went to the cross:
Isaiah 53:4-5 – 4Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
It was for our benefit!
John 16:24 – “Ask (God anything in the name of Jesus), and you will receive, that your joy may be full”. *Italics added for clarification*
This tells me we have not because we ask not. What are you needing or desiring today? Are you looking in the face of our Redeemer, trusting Him to provide, to heal, to restore? Jesus endured that horrendous cross for our benefit! He is only waiting for us to ask Him for our needs and desires. His desire is to be our Savior, He longs to see us full of joy unspeakable and full of glory!
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
If the simplicity of salvation seems superficial or insincere, then remember the conversation that took place between Jesus and one of the thieves while hanging on the cross:
Luke 23:42-43 – 42 Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.” 43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”
How thankful we need to be to Jesus, who gave His life in our place! May we individually ask of Him, “What would you have me to do?”
