The man that replaced Judas Iscariot as one of the twelve disciples was named Matthias. He is only mentioned once in the Bible, but his name means “the gift of the Lord”.
Matthias witnessed the ministry of Jesus, when He healed the blind, mute, and deaf, delivered the bound from demons, when He raised Lazarus from the dead.
Matthias was a witness to the corrupt government in his day. He was a witness to a corrupt religious system and how the Pharisees and Sadducees tried to quench the truth.
Matthias listened as Jesus talked about the signs of the end-days and taught about the kingdom and being kingdom minded.
Matthias did not need people’s recognition; his purpose was to allow God to use him according to His will. He truly believed in Jesus, the Messiah.
What is the Matthias Anointing?
Matthias knew this anointing did not come by observation. To receive this anointing meant your foundation must be built on the rock of Jesus Christ.
—
Luke 6:46-49 is entitled “Build on the Rock”. This is red letters, so we know Jesus is speaking.
Luke 6:46-49 – 46 “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?
Notice He is speaking of obedience – never undervalue obedience!
47 Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded (well built) on the rock.
49 But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell (collapsed). And the ruin of that house was great.”
This refers to Disobedience
Isaiah 28:16 refers to Jesus as a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation.
Both Peter and Paul referred to Jesus as the Chief Cornerstone and believers as living stones.
Ephesians 2:19-22 – is entitled “Christ Our Cornerstone”.
The Message: God is building a home. He’s using us all—irrespective of how we got here—in what he is building. He used the apostles and prophets for the foundation. Now he’s using you, fitting you in brick by brick, stone by stone, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone that holds all the parts together. We see it taking shape day after day—a holy temple built by God, all of us built into it, a temple in which God is quite at home.
We know by studying the Word that Truth is to be our foundation and truth is the absolutes of every word found in the Bible.
Now in this parable of building on the rock and sand, we see that we must be obedient to these truths and put them into action. Simply put, we cannot just be hearers of the Word, but be doers of the Word also. Obedience
How do we build on the rock?
Now how do we maintain position on this rock?
Jesus taught us how “Not to give up” in the parable of the persistent widow (Luke 18:1-8).
Luke 18:1 – Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart.
In this parable, the unjust judge gave in to the widow out of exasperation, her persistence was a nuisance to him. Imagine if we were persistent in using our authority against the devil, let alone being persistent in our prayers to our Heavenly Father.
I am reminded that our attitude is just as important as persistence. Keep a positive attitude while waiting on God to answer. Instead of dwelling on the circumstances, the storms of life, look at what God is doing in the midst of them. Praise Him for walking with you. Praise Him for His promises and stand on them. Praise Him for Jesus making it all possible.
Philippians 2:9-11 – 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
