It amazes me to hear people say that reading the Word of God is boring to them. So, today I want to share with anyone that feels that way and challenge them to be open to what God is really saying to them personally.
I am not one to open the Word of God on a regular basis to study time periods and review history. I usually find myself requesting God to speak to me for that day, “What is on Your heart God for me to know and understand?”
This is one of those days and as we quote many times, I saw something I had not seen before, though I have read it multiple times.
2 Timothy 2:1-7TLB
1O Timothy, my son, be strong with the strength Christ Jesus gives you. 2 For you must teach others those things you and many others have heard me speak about. Teach these great truths to trustworthy men who will, in turn, pass them on to others. 3 Take your share of suffering as a good soldier of Jesus Christ, just as I do; 4 and as Christ’s soldier, do not let yourself become tied up in worldly affairs, for then you cannot satisfy the one who has enlisted you in his army. 5 Follow the Lord’s rules for doing his work, just as an athlete either follows the rules or is disqualified and wins no prize. 6 Work hard like a farmer who gets paid well if he raises a large crop. 7 Think over these three illustrations, and may the Lord help you to understand how they apply to you.
Now this is what happens to me, and I know I am not alone in how God speaks to me through His Word. Let me explain.
I hear in my spirit, “O Debi, My daughter, be strong with the strength Christ Jesus gives you. For you must teach others those things you and many others have heard Me speak about in My Word. Teach these great truths to trustworthy men who will, in turn, pass them on to others. Enter the open doors I place before you. Mentor those I put in your path and sit before you and watch them grow to reach their potential I have planned for them. Take your share of suffering as a good soldier of Jesus Christ, for Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:10). As Christ’s soldier, do not let yourself become tied up in worldly affairs, do not worry and fret of the things you see in the natural, trust Me to handle all that is coming upon the earth. Mind your own business and pray without ceasing for My Will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Follow Me and work hard for My Kingdom, for the time is nearing of Christ’s return.”
Wow God, You are amazing!
What prompted this for me was verse seven, “Think over these three illustrations, and may the Lord help you to understand how they apply to you.”
Indeed, the Lord did apply it to my life! When this happens it only entices me to read His Word more, not out of duty, but with excitement to hear what God wants me to hear and know for that day. Thank You Father!
It reminds me of Isaiah 55:8-9 that reads, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.”
My encouragement for you today is:
Pray to God before you open His Word and be open to what He wants to say to you. Relish in those words spoken from Your Father to you, His child!
